News -The Project

Knowledge intensive activities (CREATIVE or KNOWLEDGE CLUSTERS) are driving forces of growing importance. They include cultural industries, high-tech branches, higher education institutions and advanced producer services.

The project "Knowledge Intelligence and Innovation for a sustainable Growth - KnowInG" funded by the STC programme MED, Axe 1: Strengthening innovation capacities, in the Objective 1.2: Strengthening strategic cooperation between economic development actors and public authorities, started on June 1st 2010 and ended on June 31st, 2013.

This project enhances the cooperation of key institutional and economic actors and promotes the “knowledge economy” by launching a transnational dialogue platform on policies, tools and strategies to attract and create “innovation".

KnowInG deals with the common need of the MED regions to find and experiment a better governance of the innovation in the global challenges of the current economy.

The origin of the project lies in the awareness that the regional growth in the MED area passes through the enhancement of the “knowledge economy” and that this is the first field where the economic governance can operate a virtuous circular collaboration among the key actors for the achievement of the growth objectives.

In fact, the general objective of KnowInG was to promote and support the “knowledge economy” and to enhance the cooperation and the encounter among the public institutions, the innovation organizations and the economic actors for the creation of new territorial development policies.

In the created partnership the above said 3 typologies of actors are present, coming from 5 countries and operating in 8 regions: 7 MED regions and 1 EU no-MED.

The main results produced by the project are:

Technological Parks for Innovation and Trans-European Cooperation - TPITEC

LTCP participates in the project which aims at the development of innovative lifelong learning training tools and at providing enhanced entrepreneurship education.

The project assisted the partners of all Technological Parks and their current and future clients to enhance their operation through training and development of IT tools, to support future entrepreneurs in the creation of businesses in Technological Park and to show the possibilities of technological parks to the assisting bodies to support the creation of Technological parks.

The activities of the project were axed around three types of interventions:

  • Development of the manual: “New technology and cultural activities in a Technology Park” and the guides on “Creation of businesses in sectors such as materials and nanotechnology” and “Transformation of traditional complexes to Technological Parks”
  • Development of Training curricula for Technological Parks’ staff and companies (including organisation of 6 training sessions)
  • Development of IT on-the-job training tool for improving the Parks’ operation

The project’s target groups included the staff employed in Technological Parks and entrepreneurs who represent companies established in a Technological Park or are willing to establish themselves in a Technological Park.

The project partnership was created by five partners from three EU member states – one “old” member state – Greece and two “new” member states – Romania and Slovakia. Three partners were Technological Parks and the fourth one was Technical University as a tutor of lifelong learning process. The fifth partner has been selected for his outstanding experiences in EU projects implementation trough the creation and operation of European networks in various fields.

The project’s activities have been successfully accomplished by the TPI-TEC partnership. The development and publication of the above mentioned two guides and one manual, in English and the three national languages, the development of two sets of training materials, the development of a IT tool for on-the-job training and the organisation of six trainings in the three Technological Parks were the main outputs of the project.

In addition, two cultural events were organised in the frame of the trainings to promote the integration of cultural activities in the Technological Parks. These activities were accompanied by the dissemination of the activities according to detailed dissemination plan, as well as project management activities (meetings, monitoring) that helped to sustain a qualitative coordination in the partnership.
